We officially started on this journey together 3 years ago this month (Feb 2011). Our first event was at St. Catherine University where we launched our Photo Booth and handmade goods (Love in a bottle/Love in a box series). We had so many ideas that every time we met, we ended up talking for hours about the potential of elefut. It felt as though we were always on a creative high where everything and anything was possible. Even if an idea couldn’t be achieved now, we placed it in the back burner and would return to it in the future. No idea was worthless.
We were young and still searching for what we truly wanted in life. College had brought us together, but it also left us unsure about our future careers. We needed an outlet for our creative and artistic nature that college had been unable to hone. We had the dreams of any young twenty something person: traveling the world, sipping margaritas on white sand beaches, yelling from atop of a mountain, walking along the streets of large cosmopolitan cities like NYC, living with a sense of wonder everyday, meeting new people that fed our fire for life, sleeping under the stars out in the open, and simply doing what we love. Elefut was our way to obtain those dreams. We love to photograph. We love to design. We needed to do what we love in order to feel alive.
Despite lacking a business plan, we had a lot of energy and enthusiasm to compensate for our inexperiences. It was a learning process in creating a business among friends and we each grew individually and as a whole; coming to terms with what worked best among us and taking breaks when needed. There were bumps and diverges as one would expect of a business and friendship. Elefut has gone on countless hiatus whether it was because someone was on the other end of the world pursuing their wanderlust, or someone needed a few months to immerse themselves in their own artistic development, or someone felt it was necessary to work a real job in order to pay bills, or we simply needed to try something new. No matter what, elefut brought us back together. Always.
We can’t predict the future, but hope that our success will come one day because of the hard work we have put forth. We hope that elefut grows to be the perfect dream job we had imagined. It took us three years to get here and although we still have a lot to do, hopefully the next 3 years will be filled with exponential growth. Thank you to those that have been there with us from the beginning. Welcome on our journey to those who are joining us now. We can only go up from here. There’s no limit to how far we can go (and will go).
